Leaving in a jet plane...

Well, I slept like crap last night. I was up and out of bed by 5am and did run with the boys.

And yes, I mean run! I went pretty far before I had to slow down...and for my knee, not to catch my breath. This is longer than I have run in a single session since last summer so I am very happy. The boys were pretty good and enjoy the run as well. Midnight gets a little tuckered out after 2 miles but Shadow is a machine. That Husky pup can run & run & run & run!

We are spending the night in ABQ tonight as our flight leaves the Sunport at 6am on Saturday. Ugh! We stay on the plane in Dallas where my parents will be getting on the same plane as us to Tampa. I hope they have free drinks...

The funeral is Sunday afternoon. I am bringing running shorts and a swim suit and my brand spanking new Aqua Seal swimming goggles. I have heard from a bunch of relatives and I will see most of them.

Well, will not get another workout for 2 days. Will try to blog some if there is a computer in the hotel. I am not bringing my laptop.

Later. Keep moving!
Dale

Death in the Family

I just learned a few hours back that my Mom's cousin, Adele, has passed away. She was a brave woman who in the last few weeks finally said enough with the treatments she was getting. She was living her last few days her way. G-d bless.

I will miss some of the training as I am going to the funeral. Did not run today but will try to work out while I am on the road. All the more reason to stay healthy.

You only live once. Make it all it can be.

Training for Wednesday Feb 7

Long day but a good one.
Ran in the morning with the dogs. This is hard as I know I do not have the right posture and they can pull at me (both from the front and back and sides) throwing me off a bit. Afterwards, my knee was hurting. Went an hour.

At lunch I went out and tried to run but my left knee was hurting. I also felt it in my hamstring. I did walk briskly for 45 minutes. Will lay off running until Sunday. The run scares me.

After work I took Kent's killer abs class at the Los Alamos Fitness Center. Then it was off to the Los Alamos Aquatic Center for adult swimming lessons. I can swim fairly well but I never had guidance. My goal is to get through the water more efficiently.

Long but GREAT day.

Saturday, I train with the TNT TRI team in Albuquerque. At 7am. I have to leave here no later than 5am. Ugh. Oh well, at least my workout will be done early!

Other events....

Besides the Tri the Rim, I want to also participate in the Los Alamos Triathlon. In addition, the Albuquerque Runn for the Zoo is a great 5K and 10K race. Lot's of fun and fans. The Santa Fe Century is a 25/50/100 mile bike race. It is on my mind and we shall see. Hope you can join me!

Was able to run this morning

I am glad the (left) knee has stopped hurting. I actually think it is the tendon. I have swim lessons tonight and am looking forward to them. Also, my speed jump rope came in courtesy of Ebay...now I only need to figure out how to jump rope. I need to get my stamina up. I am getting there. Plenty of time.

Asking for donations

There is no easy way to go about this, so I need to dive right in. I will be sending paper letters to people as well as emails. I drafted my letters. My goal is reasonable ($2,000) and I am confident that I can raise this.

This weekend I will be training with the ABQ biking crew from TNT. Then we will go look at bikes. I want to buy a decent road bike because the Raleigh Hybrid Bike I have is okay for the road (knobby tires and all) but to go more than 20 miles it will kill me. Considering I had not ridden a bike in decades before I bought it, it is great. It will get me through a Triathlon but if I want to go further (like the Santa Fe Century) it just will not do.

Training so far...

I have been mostly running and walking over the weekend. AT least 4 miles a day. My knee started hurting on the long run in Santa Fe with the TNT team so I have been walking briskly.

On Sunday I walked/ran for 4 miles. Then I pulled out my bicycle and rode for 12 miles. After that, it was down to Santa Fe where I swam for 500m. So, I basically did the whole Tri...only not in one session. I was thrilled.

Monday I walked swiftly (being pulled by my black Labrador Retriever, Midnight, and my Siberian Husky, Shadow) for an hour at 5am. Over lunch I ice skated for 45 minutes.

Today I slept in. This afternoon I did some weight training:

  • Squats 115/1/12 & 135/2/12 (115 pounds, 1 set, 12 reps & 135 pounds, 2 sets, 12 reps)
  • Lat Pulldown 110/3/12
  • Leg Curl 200/2/12
  • Incline Bench Press 115/1/12 & 95/2/12
  • Seated Dips -/3/12
  • (Machine) Shoulder Press 50/3/12
  • Seated Calf Raise 110/3/12
  • Straight Bar Bicep Curls 45/3/12
Tomorrow I start swimming lessons at the Los Alamos Aquatic Center.

Welcome!

Well, I am almost set. I have committed myself to running at least one triathlon ples a few more races if possible. I will do the Tri The Rim Triathlon in Durango, Colorado as well as the Los Alamos Triathlon in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
I am going to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America. I am a particpant in their Team in Training program and so far it has been nice. My goal is to raise $2,000. Click on the badge (which will be there shortly!) on the side of this blog to donate or contact me for details. I intend to post photos to this blog of my training as well as daily training updates. It should be fun. Keep posted for more information!
With love and sweat,
DALE
